Dayton Photonics Systems

Prototype to Production

Dayton Photonics Logo
Company Profile: Dayton Photonics, located in Dayton, Ohio, is a small startup spearheading a new technology that uses lasers to bring communication connectivity to the most remote, challenging environments. The TheiaTM fiberless optic system is a wireless fiber optic system that enables broadband internet networks without the need for physical fiber optic installation, saving costs and time. This product will be especially helpful in challenging locations. It is expected to be used for multiple applications such as military, emergency response, and commercial uses.

“As a tech startup working to meet the Department of Defense’s domestic sourcing requirements, we quickly realized we needed manufacturing and sourcing expertise to get ahead of this challenge. FastLane stepped in with the right connections, advice, and guidance—helping us identify qualified suppliers and ask the right questions. Their support laid the groundwork for scalable growth and long-term success.”

Situation:

Dayton Photonics had a solid benchtop prototype that they were using to demonstrate their capabilities. They wanted to move from the prototype to a marketable product. They requested FastLane’s assistance to help build out their supply chain. They wanted help to identify local and regional vendors and assistance with optimizing the subsystems for manufacturing.

Solution:
FastLane worked with Dayton Photonics to understand the subsystems needed for their product, identify the gaps in their product launch process, and simplify their supply chain needs. Then FastLane provided recommendations on how to best optimize the manufacturing of their product and streamline what they needed to order. FastLane also prioritized the most critical pieces to work on first. As a result, Dayton Photonics is partnering with small businesses to produce pre-production units. The TheiaTM fiberless optic system units are being piloted by internet service providers and demonstrated in Dayton, Ohio.
