FASTLANE Partners with Champaign Economic Partnership

April 18, 2017

FASTLANE is partnering with Champaign Economic Partnership (CEP) to help manufacturers throughout Champaign County to recruit and retain engineers.  The partnership will launch two surveys during the month of April.  One survey will be sent to engineers and the other will be sent to Champaign County manufacturing companies.  The results of the two surveys will be used to develop strategies to fill local engineering needs.

Human resource directors and engineers within Champaign County manufacturing companies will be asked to complete online surveys in an effort to strengthen company efforts to retain and recruit engineers and to compete with urban-based manufacturers for talent.

“Engineers are critical to our local manufacturers’ operations and their ability to innovate and compete in the marketplace, grow their businesses and create new jobs,” said Marcia Bailey, director of the Champaign Economic Partnership.

CEP and FASTLANE have co-created this survey to help rural manufacturers in Champaign County become more competitive by understanding what will help them to attract and retain engineers.

“The engineering retention surveys will provide needed insight which local manufacturing employers and community leaders can use to better understand which factors influence engineers, to live, work and play in Champaign County.” explains Mary R. Miller, Manufacturing Growth Specialist for FASTLANE.

The surveys have been created on the web-based platform Survey Monkey and can be completed in 15 minutes or less.  All survey responses will be confidential.  The results will be aggregated to guide development of engineer retention and recruitment strategies for Champaign County manufacturers. The cumulative results will be published on both the CEP ( and FASTLANE ( websites.
